Life at St. Anne's
Programs at St. Anne’s are based on a 12-step recovery process and are centered in cognitive behavioral therapy. A holistic approach is necessary to address the myriad issues that may have contributed to any individual’s addiction. Plans are tailored to each woman’s needs and can include vocational or parenting assistance. Lessons in budgeting and financial management are available by referral. Women who have undergone trauma are referred for individual counseling. One day per month, St. Anne’s staff works with the residents’ family members to further lay the groundwork for a life free from addiction when the women return home.
A foundation block in the successful recovery of each resident comes in recognizing how to fill time productively, including leisure time. Days in the home are highly structured. There are set meal times. Along with daily group therapy guided by the home’s professional staff, time is allotted for activities such as job searches on computers provided in the home, exercise, book study and guest lectures. There are occasional supervised outings to cultural events or to take part in volunteer work such as Habitat for Humanity events. Each resident shares responsibility in the household chores. The home is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the women’s safety and well-being.
Recovery from addiction is a long-term journey. Former residents report they were able to leave St. Anne’s with a new attitude, new hope and to begin a new way of life.
